Broad Breasted White Turkey Poults
ABOUT:

Broad Breasted White Turkeys are the most popular meat turkeys in the U.S., valued for their rapid growth, broad breast meat, and excellent feed-to-weight conversion. With proper care, toms can reach 30–40 pounds and hens 20–25 pounds in as little as 16 to 20 weeks, making them ideal for holiday markets and homestead meat production.

Due to their large size, Broad Breasted Whites are not suitable for natural breeding. These birds are best raised for meat and thrive with good management, quality feed, and proper housing. Whether you're raising for your family or market, they deliver reliable results and a flavorful, tender finished product.

Starting Tips for Poults:
Young turkey poults are more sensitive than chicks and require extra attention in the first few weeks.

  • Keep brooder temperatures at 95°F for the first week, decreasing by 5°F each week until fully feathered.
  • Use non-slip bedding (like paper towels over shavings) to prevent leg injuries during the first week.
  • Provide bright lighting to help poults easily locate food and water.
  • Gently dip each poult’s beak in water when placing them in the brooder to teach them to drink.

Feeding Recommendations:

  • Start with a high-protein turkey or game bird starter feed (28–30%) for the first 6–8 weeks to support fast, healthy growth.
  • Transition to a grower feed (20–22% protein) from 8 weeks until processing.
  • Always provide fresh, clean water.
  • For added protection, consider supplementing with vitamins and electrolytes during the first few days.
